The Right's Response and the Right Response

NRO symposium on the Teddy-bear Intifada has some modest proposals but they don’t go far enough. In response to the alleged insult, we should deliberately and emphatically insult Islam: it is a vicious supremacist ideology that has brought 14 centuries of oppression. As I once explained, what we need and what is missing is a moral condemnation. We should not be intimidated into silence; we should speak the truth, loud and clear.

Jason writes that "we should deliberately and emphatically insult Islam: ... what we need and what is missing is a moral condemnation. We should not be intimidated into silence; we should speak the truth, loud and clear."

I completely concur (as usual) with Jason, that what we need is moral condemnation, and speaking the truth. That would constitute the greatest insult to Islam imaginable.

I was going to read the article Jason but it starts out with the statement that there was rioting in Sudan. Now, there was no such thing and NRO is pushing the pure stinky cheese.

Come back when you can discuss this rather trivial incident factually and not use the right wing trick of playing to emotions.

Of course neither of you seem to realize that the military head of Sudan in a cheap try to gain some Muslim solidarity for his marginalized country WAS HUMILIATED and failed completely.

I wonder if there was a little "inside baseball" going on and we got China to do some arm twisting.

Anyway gentlemen, pitch till you win.

Weingarten gets it: the truth is “the greatest insult to Islam imaginable.” This is why Muslims were humiliated by the imposition of Sharia in the Suddan. There were very few making excuses for Islam this time. It may have been a silent condemnation but everyone knew what was commonly thought. Imagine if it were vocal and unrelenting.

The "imposition of sharia?", but Jason, the school was coed.

It was the government, not the school, that threatened the teacher with torture for violating Islamic law.

If the government were enforcing shari'a, as it is understood by our crop of post 9-11 Islamic scholars then the school wouldn't be open in the first place.

Any coed schools in Saudi, you model of monolithic shari'a?

What we do know about this case is that a disgruntled employee tried to get back at the school for a firing. Didn't work and it's all a tempest in a teacup.

Over on the BBC are some of the various reactions. The Sudanese ambassador stated that there never should have been an arrest.
There were no diplomatic statements from the British. In the diplomatic world that's a pretty complete victory.

There are also apologies from Muslim organizations and a pretty clear sense of embarrassment that Sudan pulled this crap.

Now Jason, short of turning the country to glass and killing a bunch of innocent people what would you like to see happen? Seems to me this worked out well for the good side.

The arrest was done according to Islamic law even if they aren’t completely under Islamic law.

I called for a moral condemnation. Civilized people were morally outraged although it wasn’t explicitly and vociferously expressed. Nevertheless it was implicit and sensed by "colonial Muslims;" and conveyed to the Sudanese Islamists.

Common sense decency resulted in moral outrage. If we did this explicitly and systematically, we’d be honest, honorable and clear. This would set the right posture. Most importantly, this would have the effect of cultivating a firm resolve, one that we so rightly deserve.

This is a moral issue and requires, first and foremost, a expression of moral principles and outrage.

Every time I try to imagine what it's like to actually be as trivially stupid as Ducky, I picture a man who says "The Muslims that attacked us on 9/11 died in the attack, what's the big deal?"

Take baby steps if you have to, Ducky. But for God's sake, post something intelligent some time. This century would be nice.

How much more of this crap will the West take before we go Roman on Islam?

You've largely been ignored Ron since proving you couldn't get the job done in Afghanistan.

Get the job done in Afghanistan? Isn't the Taliban reduced to occassional (and largely ineffectual) cross-border raids from Waziristan while having no base in Afghanistan at all?

Now Ducky, I realize your leftism ideologically obligates you to make comments that induce the effect of making rational people sincerely believe you're mentally retarded, but damn. I asked nicely for you to try to say something intelligent. Just once.

Humor me.

So, Ducky, if we could "get the job done" (according to your always-cogent political and military standards)--should we?

By the way, Jason, doesn't Ducky deserve one of those "CAIR Bears" for Christmas? You know, for being your blog's "Dhimmi of the Year" or something? You should provide the link so that he pick out his favorite. The rest of us can guess which one that will be.
